Extra wide Masterdors win over housebuilder
Looking for a wide door, solid in structure, housebuilders Kamac has installed Masterdor door-sets at two of its luxury homes in Ascot.
Several other door manufactures they approached had either been unable to produce a door 1170mm wide, or the cost of having one specially made was prohibitive.
After hearing a radio advertisement for Masterdor approved installer, Merlin UK, they found a solution.
Mike Hudson, director, Manse Masterdor ltd, commented, "Due to the unique way Masterdors are made it is possible to manufacturer extra wide doors without compromising on strength or security".
"By making each door to measure, we can have total flexibility of design in terms of glazing, hardware and furniture".
Many of the original characteristics of the property had been lost over the years due to several modifications of the existing door, including the removal of the mullions and transoms.
By studying original fanlights in the street, Merlin UK created a glass design that was in keeping with the style of the property.
In addition to recreating the original features of the door leaf and glazing, Merlin UK decided to retain the original architraves.
These were carefully removed, then refurbished and repainted, before being replaced once the new door had been fitted.
The Masterdor made to measure door-set exceeded PAS23/24 BSi and Sold Secure test standards and its Secured by Design licence covers over 60 different door styles.
Masterdors meet the requirements of both Part M and Part L of the building regulations, and fire-check versions have also been successfully tested to BS476 Part 22.
