Marshalls natural stone to transform Chepstow
Marshalls plc is supplying a £500,000 order for natural stone paving, steps, walling, tactile paving and bespoke stone masonry for Phase 2 of the landscape transformation of central Chepstow.
The project has seen the transformation of the NEC's N10, 11 and 12 car park areas, turning it from the existing loose compacted aggregate material to a high quality consistent concrete block surface.
The contract was secured after principal contractors Weldon Construction and Marshalls put an informed proposition together to the NEC for the scheme.
Concerned that a traditional method of concrete block paving installation could not be completed in the 12 week construction time frame, the NEC was to specify asphalt 'black top' for the project.

After listening to Marshalls and Weldon about the significant time savings mechanically laid concrete block paving could achieve and the added aesthetics the specification was changed to Keyblok ML.
Two specialist mechanical concrete block paving contractors worked in tandem to complete the project, Tolly Paving and On Level Paving.
Work on the project progressed efficiently with the contractors achieving fully installed areas of up to 1,500m2 per day using multiple installation machines.
This was assisted by automating the screed installation, compacting and sanding in components of the process.
Over the long term, concrete block paved surfaces are appreciably more cost effective than asphalt, offering a sustainable whole life value.
Marshalls concrete block paving has better long-term cost due to the inherent flexibility and strength in the surface, infrequent and simple maintenance, ease of reinstatement following works, and its recycling capability.
In addition, considering the immediate aesthetic impact a Marshalls block paved surface makes to a project; the product clearly stands out as the best overall value choice for both the public realm and commercial users alike.
Marshalls and Weldon Construction have also worked closely to reach sustainable solution in reducing packaging and recycling pallets and waste shrink wrap.
