Major success for MBC Specialist Services
MBC Specialist Services has drilled 50,000 holes in the new Derby City Hospital for Skanska.
Working from inside the building, MBC carefully removed the brickwork and concrete supporting the windows, preparing the street-facing side of the building for refurbishment as a glazed frontage.
The painstaking work took six weeks to complete and had to be carried out with no detriment to the structure of the building, and with public safety in mind.
MBC Operations Manager Chris Eaton comments: 'The main challenge was to ensure the integrity of the building as key structural elements were removed.
It was completed entirely to the client's satisfaction, and left ready for the next stage of the refit'.
MBC Specialist Services also carried out concrete cutting within the building as part of its conversion from ground floor retail space with offices above to two-storey retail space at ground level.
The work comprised drilling and cutting floor openings for stairs and lifts, including the creation of a stairway to a new upper sales floor for existing occupant Snow and Rock, the skiing and climbing specialist.
This was achieved with minimal disruption to the shop's business and minimal intrusion of dust thanks to MBC's dust suppression process.
