McPhillips builds church for Dudley congregation

A McPhillips (Wellington) product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Jan 12, 2010

McPhillips has built a circular church, Champions Church, replacing an 1810 dilapidated chapel in Dudley following two decades of planning.

The 850 seat auditorium is expected to be filled throughout its four day grand opening from 14-17 January.

Work on the new church began in March 2009 and was completed on time.

It includes a 1,300m2 worship space, 170x70ft semi-circular, double storey, 14 tiered row auditorium for 850, and a 5x2.4m walk through baptism pool in front of the stage.

The 600m2 ground floor and 700m2 first floor space with a 40m roof span includes a glass entrance hall.

The steel framed building, clad in block work with concrete tiered seating and staircases has interior sound proofing, a sound system and lighting and soft furnishings, along with a new access off the A459.
