Mek-Tek mobile concrete batching plant

A Mek-Tek product story

Mek-Tek has supplied a new ten cubic metre MBP10 mobile batching plant to a Mixamate Concrete franchisee to replace both of its ageing manual mixing wagons.

Mek-Tek Limited, Britain's only manufacturer of mobile volumetric concrete mixers, has supplied a new ten cubic metre MBP10 mobile batching plant to a Mixamate Concrete franchisee to replace both of its ageing manual mixing wagons.

The Mixamate franchise has been operating in north Wales and north-west England for more than twelve years and is now owned by Gary Dyson.

He was initially attracted to the MBP10 after it was highly recommended by the Leicester franchise, which has been running a similar vehicle for some time.

Gary Dyson was also offered a very competitive price and a service and training package, as well as the loan of Mek-Tek's demonstrator vehicle while he was waiting for delivery.

The combination of Gary's experience and Mek-Tek's machine being so easy to operate meant that a half-day training at the company's Gloucestershire factory was all that was needed.

Explaining how the MBP10 has transformed his business, Gary Dyson says: "By mixing manually, we could only produce about six metres by midday, whereas with the MBP10 we can achieve the same volume by 9:30".

"This means that the one Mek-Tek truck is capable of producing more than twice the amount of concrete than the two manual machines together, much more easily, more consistently and to a much higher quality".

Because Gary's Mixamate franchise mainly supplies concrete for small builders and D.I.Y projects, 90% of customers take advantage of the free barrowing service.

This limits the amount produced in a day so, whilst the company has replaced two manual wagons with a single MBP10, Gary isn't expecting a dramatic increase in turnover but does expect profit margins to improve significantly.

"Buying the MBP10 is the best thing we've done and it has completely changed the way we work".

"It makes the old manual wagons seem prehistoric and when we now arrive at customers' houses, heads turn and people even come out to watch us working!".

He adds that if business continues to improve, he will need to order another Mek-Tek truck in the very near future.

Commenting for Mek-Tek, chairman Bob Prince says: "Gary's experience with our MBP is typical of many businesses that are increasing their efficiency, turnover and profit".
