Mek-Tek MBP for Yorkshire ready-mix company

A Mek-Tek product story

Mek-Tek MBP, Britain's only manufacturer of mobile volumetric concrete mixers, has supplied a new six cubic metre MBP6 to Yorkshire-based Spot-On Concrete.

Mek-Tek MBP Limited, Britain's only manufacturer of mobile volumetric concrete mixers, has supplied a new six cubic metre MBP6 to Yorkshire-based Spot-On Concrete.

The MBP6 now features greater auger torque and a new high-efficiency screw design, which allows it to discharge much more quickly and maintain fast discharge speeds even at higher delivery angles.

This greatly improves productivity as operators are able to batch concrete into much larger trucks as well as smaller dump trucks.

A fail-safe system is fitted to stop material feeding to the auger if the delivery angle is too high.

Commenting on the new truck Spot-On's Mario Cerchione says that although the Mek-Tek MBP6 is smaller than the company's existing mobile mixer truck - a 10m3 model from another manufacturer - it is already being used for most of Spot-On's concrete deliveries for screeding and foundation projects from conservatory companies and small builders.

"It is so successful that many of our customers, including Jewson's, Travis Perkins and Cemex UK, now ask for it specifically thanks to the better quality concrete mix and the higher angle of delivery.

Our work is extremely varied but the core of the business includes large quantities of screed, dry and semi-dry mix, which the Mek-Tek truck handles with ease.

He says, adding that the MBP6 is also quicker and easier to use and clean.

According to Mario, the MBP6 is also one of the easiest and quickest volumetric trucks to maintain thanks to its self lubricating auger, all-new hydraulic system and self adjusting belt scraper and blade.

"I would estimate that the Mek-Tek truck reduces the time taken for routine maintenance by as much as 50%," he says.

As most of the Spot-On's 30m3/day output is supplied for screeding, the MBP6 is also equipped with a Fibre Feeder to reinforce the concrete mix.

The optional unit has a 19kg capacity and can operate with a variety of materials.

It is synchronised with the mobile batching plant to add a continuous stream of fibre to the water, cement and aggregate mix at quantities from 0.6 to 0.9kg of material per m3 of concrete.

Feed speed and material cut-length are adjustable to ensure optimum fibre distribution within the concrete mix and avoid the clumping and baling that can be a problem with the soluble bags used to add fibre to traditional drum mixers.

Not only has the MBP6 made life easier for Spot On, the installation of a 50 tonne silo from Mek-Tek has also meant that the company can now refill the truck in less than 15 minutes - a process that had taken more than an hour! Summing up for Spot On, Mario Cerchione says: "News of the MBP6 and the service we provide has travelled fast.

We now cover a very large area as people are prepared to pay extra for us to delivery in order to get the quality of concrete and level of service.

"This has certainly stretched our resources so we are now considering the purchase of our third truck, which will definitely be our second Mek-Tek MBP.
