MVMP continue with regeneration of housing in former pit communities in north Derbyshire and north Nottinghamshire.

Meden Valley Making Places (MVMP), the agency charged with the regeneration of run-down and derelict housing in former pit communities in north Derbyshire and north Nottinghamshire, has secured support from its funding partners to continue its work for a further 12 months MVMP, which was established in March 2003, will now continue operations until at least March 2009, allowing it to continue to work closely with key partners on the housing improvements which are already well under way in several areas

Based at offices in Market Warsop, Nottinghamshire, MVMP is a not-for-profit company whose shareholders are its funding partners - Bolsover District Council, Mansfield District Council, English Partnerships, the National Regeneration Agency and the East Midlands Development Agency.

Through a programme involving demolition, refurbishment and new build, MVMP is creating more than 600 new homes in conjunction with selected developer Bellway Homes, while 60 formerly run-down homes at the historic Creswell Model Village in Derbyshire have been refurbished for sale on the open market.

The project also involves refurbishment of homes for rent and low-cost ownership through LHA-ASRA Group and South Yorkshire Housing Association.

Welcoming the one-year extension to its operations, MVMP Chief Executive Gary Kirk commented: "We are delighted with the news as it's a clear recognition of the role the organisation is playing in regenerating this area and creating vibrant new communities in which to live and work.

"The additional 12 months will see us building on the excellent relationships we have forged with key stakeholder organisations and local people, and continuing our active role in the regeneration work which is now ongoing in several areas across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire.

It will enable us to deliver key milestones for the project and to continue to provide support for local residents.

"Given that our role has recently been extended to include involvement in the regeneration of Brownlow Road in Mansfield, the one-year extension is excellent news for the region as it will allow us, if required, to participate in other similar regeneration projects locally, working with or on behalf of partner organisations.

"The announcement also enables us to offer greater job security for our dedicated team here at MVMP headquarters in Warsop.".
