Meden Valley Making Places are co-ordinating a Bolsover housing development with Keepmoat Homes, incorporating eco-friendly technology and sustainable housing.

Meden Valley Making Places (MVMP) is a housing regeneration agency and Keepmoat Homes is a leading new homes builder.

Both have exchanged contracts on the project.

The contract will deliver 65 high quality new homes as part of a GBP7 million investment in the area, while ensuring labour for the project is sourced locally whenever possible.

The new homes on Church Drive in Shirebrook will be developed by Keepmoat Homes, MVMP, Bolsover DC and LHA-ASRA.

Six of the new homes will incorporate eco-friendly technology such as photovoltaic panels, rain water harvesting and high levels of insulation.

MVMP, the group co-ordinating the regeneration of derelict housing in former mining communities across north east Derbyshire and north Nottinghamshire, is transforming neighbourhoods that once faced a bleak outlook because of social or economic decline.

The traditional colliery village of Shirebrook had suffered significant hardship since the closure of its coal mine in 1993.

Since then, 59 unfit properties were demolished in order to create a vibrant and attractive new housing estate alongside the refurbishment of five homes which have been improved to high levels of energy efficiency.

Gary Kirk, Chief Executive of MVMP, said: "We believe that people are at the heart of regeneration, and for a long time now the residents of Shirebrook have deserved better.

"We are delighted to have progressed this through to completion with Keepmoat Homes as this will lift the area and provide a much needed boost to local people during the current economic downturn.

"Work will commence on the homes from July with completion expected in 2011".

David Ward, Managing Director with Keepmoat Homes Yorkshire and Midlands, said: "We are delighted to have been selected to be the construction partner in this exciting project and look forward to working with this excellent team.

"Our aim is not just to build quality homes but to continue the revival of the local community by creating a vibrant and sustainable environment in which people take pride".

The flagship scheme which is part of MVMP's sustainable masterplan, will deliver two and three bedroom new homes, including six properties for affordable housing through LHA-ASRA.

All will meet the Lifetime Homes standard, and six are designed to meet level four of the Code for Sustainable Homes - one of the first schemes to achieve this high standard of energy efficiency in the East Midlands.

MVMP recently announced GBP900,000 of further funding support from the Homes and Communities Agency which will enable it to continue its work to at least 2011.
