The Energy Event goes Carbon Clear for five years
A five year agreement has been reached between Carbon Clear, the leading carbon management company and Western Business Exhibitions regarding The Energy Event.
Under the terms of the agreement, Carbon Clear will be the official carbon management and offset partner for the annual exhibition and conference, which this year takes place on 9-10th September at the National Motorcycle Museum in Solihull.
Carbon Clear will measure and offset the carbon footprint of The Energy Event.
This involves gathering information about the gas and electricity consumption, visitor travel, how the waste is handled etc.
Carbon Clear will then offset the footprint using high quality carbon offsets.
In 2008, The Energy Event generated 115.42 tonnes of CO2'.
According to Cameron Wilson, at Carbon Clear, one of the major ambitions of this partnership is to help to reduce the total carbon footprint of the event.
"The most significant contributor to the carbon footprint last year was visitor travel".
"We have online information which will help educate the visitor about how they can reduce their overall effect in 2009.
Alongside this online information, Carbon Clear will also be working with The Energy Event's organisers, as part of their consultancy role, to help them implement initiatives which will reduce the total carbon emissions even further.
This partnership is evidence that the events industry is becoming increasingly 'carbon aware', with the timing being particularly apposite, as Carbon Clear is just about to launch an online carbon footprint calculator specifically tailored for the events industry.
Using the online calculator event organisers can get a rough estimate of their carbon footprint.
With the recession affecting most sectors, one view is that environmental matters have had to take something of a back seat as the focus on core business intensifies.
However, as Cameron Wilson emphasises, "Carbon emissions are generated by use of energy and resource consumption which are cost centres to your business".
"Simply by identifying and implementing ways of cutting carbon, businesses can be driving efficiencies and cost savings".
"Do it well, and your business will almost certainly retain and win new business".
"Similarly, when carbon offsetting appears as a line on the profit and loss account it becomes a cost which needs to be driven down".
"With the Finance Director engaged, carbon reductions tend to follow".
The Energy Event covers energy management, procurement and efficiency and through its range of conferences, as well as its exhibition, it addresses issues and technology which stretch from the shop floor to the bottom line.
The Energy Insight conference is aimed at those looking to the future of energy policy, as well as for more immediate savings, while other seminars will be hosted by ESTA, CIBSE, Envirowise and the MEUC and contain a mixture of practical and legislative information".
""We were very happy to align our brand with The Energy Event" says Cameron Wilson from Carbon Clear".
""The aims of the event are very close to our own in that we are both trying to help people improve their carbon performance while improving their business performance simultaneously".
The Energy Event takes place at The National Motorcycle Museum, Birmingham on 9th and 10th of September 2009.
The event is free to enter, with free parking although visitors are advised to register in advance for seminar places and entry tickets.
