Concrete specialist, Milbury Systems, has completed the first contract for Karapace, a unique precast concrete retaining system launched at NCE's Civils 2005 show last November The company supplied Karapace to forestry and landscape company, Tilhill Forestry , for a 40m long x 1.2m high retaining wall to stabilise a slate waste scree over a lorry park at Tredegar Business Park, Landover in South Wales

Milbury has secured two further orders for the new system.

At the end of April Karapace will be supplied to form a 48m long x 2.4m high retaining wall which will be planted with trees at in a business park in Henley in Arden, Warwickshire.

And Karapace will also feature in a 52m long x 2.4 m high retaining wall at an industrial estate in Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent, with delivery scheduled for the end of May.

Karapace offers a wide variety of structural applications in all types of environments.

Derived from the word "carapace", the thick protective shell that covers crustaceans, it is an easily transported retaining system manufactured from reinforced precast concrete.

Comprising two differently shaped units which fit together to form a strong and effective retaining construction, Karapace is an ideal solution for applications where strength and durability are critical factors such as in sea defences, soil retention, canal lining, marinas, highways, docks and railways.

Karapace is manufactured by Milbury at its precast concrete production plant in Lydney, Gloucestershire.
