Concrete specialist, Milbury Systems, has completed the construction of a fly tower which forms the tallest part of Dunstable's new Grove Theatre.

Concrete specialist, Milbury Systems, has completed the construction of a 21.5m high fly tower which forms the tallest part of Dunstable's new £16m "Grove Theatre", the biggest single leisure development in South Bedfordshire Milbury, which constructed the fly tower at the award winning Dream Factory Theatre in Warwick in 1999, was called in to carry out the Dunstable project by the contractors SDC Builders because of its proven expertise

The company designed, manufactured and installed 1,150sq metres of concrete panels to construct the Grove Theatre's fly tower which is the tallest part of the theatre building at 21.5m high from floor level to parapet.

Two hundred and ninety six 120mm thick concrete horizontal panels, 1.5m high and of varying lengths, were specially manufactured by Milbury at its factory in Lydney, Gloucestershire.

The panels were delivered direct to the theatre site at Dunstable where Milbury undertook the installation, lowering each panel into position with a mobile crane.

"SDC selected us to carry out the design, manufacture and installation of the concrete panels which make up the Dunstable theatre fly tower because we have specific experience of this type of construction following our work on the Dream Factory in Warwick", commented Russell Mees, construction manager at Milbury Systems.

The Grove Theatre will form the centrepiece of a new leisure development in the centre of Dunstable and is scheduled for completion in spring 2007.
