Concrete specialist, Milbury Systems, has completed the construction of a fly tower which forms the tallest part of Dunstable's new Grove Theatre.
Over 3,400 sq metres of bespoke precast concrete panels will be manufactured by Milbury for the project at its modern precast facility in Lydney, Gloucestershire.
The concrete will feature in the inner and outer leaves of the walls and roof of the auditorium itself to construct an acoustic enclosure.
Milbury will also supply the concrete for the Chorus and Auditorium seating areas.
The company has already been actively involved in developing the design of the inner and outer walls and roof, working with the installers, architects and structural engineers to plan supply of the concrete panels to meet the contract design and the teams' requirements.
Initial deliveries to the site are scheduled for October 2007.
"The walls were originally designed as blockwork", explained Koshe Patel, business development manager at Milbury Systems.
"However, there was a concern regarding the number of mortar joints that occur with blockwork".
"Milbury proposed using prestressed panels which greatly reduced the number of joints and their acoustic efficiency was further improved by the provision of a tongue and grooved joint".
"" Headquartered in Tickenham, near Bristol, Milbury established its own concrete production facility in January 2003, enabling the company to supply the majority of its own precast concrete requirements and to offer clients a more competitive and flexible full service from design right through to installation.
