Midas Construction contract for a speculative office complex designed to create new employment opportunities as part of the South West RDA's 'Urban Village' in St Austell, Cornwall.

Midas Construction has been awarded the contract for a GBP4 million speculative office complex designed to create new employment opportunities as part of the South West RDA's 'Urban Village' in St Austell, Cornwall The contract comes as part of a Long Term Framework Agreement between Midas and the South West RDA

The Brunel Business Park employment scheme - comprising 2,012m2 of speculative office space within four buildings - will sit alongside the first phase of the Urban Village which includes 152 homes (25% of which are affordable), some local shops and a village green.

The Village has been designed with guidance from the Prince's Foundation.

Based on the site of an old rail goods site, the Brunel Business Park has been designed by local architects Alan Leather Associates to take inspiration from the Victorian railway era.

The four separate two storey blocks will incorporate temporary design featuring cathedral style glazing, roofs designed to look as if finished in copper and decorative red brick detailing.

The units will be constructed to BREEAM 'excellent' rating and will feature geothermal heating, rainwater recycling facilities and high levels of insulations internally.

The external landscaping will include a pond and cycle store.

The contract follows Midas Construction's recent appointment to undertake site infrastructure works at the new Beacon Technology Park in nearby Bodmin, again on behalf of the South West RDA.

The Brunel Business Park is due for completion in early 2007.
