Midas Projects (UK) has been appointed as the principal contractor for the South West Fire and Rescue Control Centre.

Midas Projects (UK) 's appointment by Summerfield Developments comes following the granting of planning permission by Taunton Deane Borough Council for the 3-storey, 2,700 sq m South West Fire and Rescue Control Centre at Blackbrook Business Park in Taunton.

The South West Fire Control and Rescue Centre is one of an integrated network of nine centres, which will be built across the UK as part of the government's initiative to create a Fire and Rescue Service designed to respond to the demands of the 21st century - including major security incidents.

The South West Centre will house teams who will work around the clock using state of the art technology to co-ordinate and deliver effective response from regional emergency services.

Richard Lloyd, Chief Executive of Summerfield Developments , who were appointed by the government as developers for the South West Control Centre in August 2005 explains, "Summerfield and Midas have an excellent track-record in working together.

Over the last two years alone, it has helped us deliver over GBP22 million of projects across the region, including many new buildings at Blackbrook Business Park itself.

"It has already been heavily involved in working with us on the design and cost-planning for this project over the last 12 months in order to help deliver best value whilst still adhering to the government's high specification demand".

Paul McLaughlin of Midas Projects (UK) comments, "With the M and E element making up over 50% of the contract and an extremely tight time-scale for the project, we'll be looking to complete the shell of the building in record time to allow as much time as possible to get the services in".

The award of the contract highlights Midas Projects (UK) 's growing role in taking on exemplar, high profile design and build projects.

Work by Midas Projects (UK) is due to start on site in the New Year and the Centre is due to go live in 2008.
