An Ecodan air source heat pump from Mitsubishi Electric has been installed outside a supported housing facility in Stoke.

The sustainable heating was specified for the bungalow for elderly residents to meet all the hot water and heating requirements.

The Ecodan unit was selected for the project when the existing oil-fired boiler at the home needed to be replaced.

The home was not on the gas network so the boiler, the oil tank and all the pipework had to be renewed.

The Ecodan unit was specified as it would cause minimum disruption for the occupants, and could offer high efficiency with low running costs.

Ecodan is a modern air source heat pump which harvests renewable energy from the outdoor air, and upgrades it to provide a constant supply of hot water and heating.

It can deliver 3.5kW of heating energy for every 1kW of electricity it consumes.

The unit requires minimal maintenance other than a quick visual check every few months to ensure that vents are clear of garden debris.
