Miwa Lock's AL5H Achieves Fire Resistance Rating
Miwa Lock Co Ltd is the first manufacturer to obtain the prestigious BS EN 1634-1-2000 standard for fire resistance for its AL5H dual technology smart lock.
The first lock to operate using a choice of Magstripe and smart card technologies combined into one lock, the AL5H is designed to meet a wide variety of access control and security needs in the hotel, educational and hospital markets.
Its advanced technology means it requires no hardwiring; all programming of the lock is achieved by an infrared upload/download data link with each lock only taking 15-20 seconds to program.
Tested at the world renowned Chiltern Fire Research Centre, the AL5H lock was fitted to a fire resistant door, which was then tested and measured for leaf clearance gap and retention forces.
Observations of the door and lockset were then made throughout the test, searching for controlled performance against the following criteria: integrity, insulation and radiation.
To meet Building Regulations for an FD30 rating, that is fire resistance for 30 minutes, the door including the AL5H lockset was exposed to a continual temperature rise, climbing to approximately 850deg F.
Andy Purvis, General Manager, Miwa Lock Co Ltd said: "We are delighted that our new AL5H dual technology smart lock has obtained the BS EN 1634-1-2000 standard for fire door and lock sets.
Architects, specifiers and facility managers are increasingly looking for products that offer the highest standards of safety and technical excellence and by achieving BS EN 1634-1-2000, the AL5H is one of the most advanced such locks on the market." Ends.
