Forecast book looks at market for PVC-U Windows
Rigby Research's latest forecasts are presented in the UK PVC-U Windows, Doors and Conservatory Book of Forecasts 2002-2012.
While representing a small proportion of total PVC-U window production, vertical sliders offer companies another opportunity to penetrate the remaining replacement market for original timber windows.
A high proportion of these are traditional sash windows fitted to pre-1914 properties, whose owners want to preserve the character of their home.
"Early PVC-U vertical sliders were hard to sell and hard to make and install but the best of the current crop have overcome these problems", says Neil Parsonson, Market Research Manager of Rigby Research.
"A combination of better design, better window-making machinery and effective pre-tensioned spiral balances has resulted in a range of products that can successfully challenge timber, even in conservation areas".
The report highlights volume and market share by systems companies, plus over 40 fabricators are identified along with the systems used.
One factor highlighted is the relationship between the cost of a PVC-U vertical slider and other window products.
While there is a price premium over PVC-U casement windows in terms of profile and finished product, costs compare very favourably with softwood.
Key to the report is a look at volume growth since 2003 - and the projected growth up to 2009 compared with the PVC-U window market as a whole.
The 57-page report, including seven tables and three charts, costs GBP950 plus VAT and is available now.
It makes vital reading for anyone in the PVC-U window market, including fabricators and hardware companies - and businesses likely to be challenged by the rise of the PVC-U vertical slider.
