Millfield FRP Complete Sage Contract
Glass-reinforced gypsum (GRG) columns designed and installed by Millfield FRP have created a stylish, contemporary ambiance to Sage Group PLC's new head offices.
Glass-reinforced gypsum (GRG) columns designed and installed by Millfield FRP have created a stylish, contemporary ambiance to Sage Group PLC's new head offices, the first development on Newcastle Great Park, Newcastle upon Tyne's prestigious business park currently under construction alongside the A1 some ten miles north of the city.
The £124,142.00 contract comprises no fewer than 178 columns with stainless steel plinths to grace the general office area, 44 columns with hardwood plinths for the directors suite and reception areas, and 12.9m high feature columns in the breakout area.
All units are manufactured in high modulus GRG with bonded finishing details.
Millfield worked closely with the architects on the design of the columns and suspension arrangements some six months before the main contract award to Tolent Construction, making sample column sections to demonstrate the company's quality and expertise.
The architects, local Newcastle practice, Ian Darby Partnership, subsequently named Millfield as their preferred supplier.
Although Millfield's tender price was not the lowest received by Tolent Construction, it was, after some negotiation.
As Ian Clift, Commercial Manager at Tolent says, "We do not just select the lowest tender we select the right tenderer to do the project and the tenderer who has allowed for everything, eg distribution.
Our choice of Millfield FRP was a good one; the job went very smoothly and they carried out the work efficiently and to a high standard.
We are very happy to have had them on board." Sage Group is pleased with the development, which incorporates an innovative style of architecture reflecting the ambiance of both the prestigious location and the company's high profile name.
The interior appointments had to be designed, manufactured and installed to commensurate standards, and Millfield have proved their worth in their contribution to the project.
Tolent Construction completed the contract for construction and fit-out of the Sage building and landscaping of the grounds all to programme; Ian Darby Partnership produced the innovative building design and the interior appointments, assisted in the directors' suite and reception areas by interior designers, Bill Hopper Design.
