Millfield FRP Takes Off At Newcastle Airport

Millfield FRP has completed its contribution to a major expansion programme at Newcastle Airport with the design, supply and fix of glass-reinforced gypsum (GRG) columns and bulkheads.

Millfield FRP has completed its contribution to a major expansion programme at Newcastle International Airport with the design, supply and fix of glass-reinforced gypsum (GRG) columns and bulkheads in the smart new retail area of the departure lounge.

The Millfield works were carried out under contract to the main contractors, Sir Robert McAlpine, who had won the £6.5m design and construct project to alter and extend the airport in its Level 2 redevelopment stage designed to improve the quality, choice and range of facilities offered to passengers in the airport's departure lounge.

Millfield's contribution of high modulus GRG columns and bulkheads with bonded finishing details is valued at £45,000.00 and has included work on the new duty-free area and a number of high-street names such as Boots, WH Smith, Tie Rack, Traveler and Redland Baggage.

All of the work was airside, with its attendant security implications, and were mostly undertaken at night to meet the tight deadline requirements of the fast-track programme.

This is the third GRG contract carried out by Millfield for Sir Robert McAlpine in Newcastle.

It follows the successful completion of the Central Square development and The Gate retail development and demonstrates the main contractor's confidence in Millfield's ability to fulfil its contract obligations on time and within budget.
