Metsec contract for luxury Dockland development
Metsec's Framing Division will supply its site fixed, light gauge structural framing systems for luxury waterfront apartments in London.
Working with Chartway Specialist Contractors, Metsec will provide its site-fix system (SFS) for infill walling for more than 4800 square metres of the build.
The Barrett Homes development, in Capital East, on the Royal Victoria Docks is expected to take Metsec's installers 12 months to complete in Phase 1, and eight months in Phase 2.
SFS is becoming increasingly popular in the UK as architects, specifiers and developers recognise its benefits over more traditional building methods.
Chartway was attracted by its low weight and speed of construction.
Manufactured from lightweight, cold-rolled, galvanised steel it is up to 30% lighter than masonry, and has been proven to accelerate projects by as much as 30% when compared to traditional blockwork builds.
During Phase 1, Metsec used its pioneering techniques for fixing complex arrangements of stone cladding - a process which typically presents a number of challenges to technical teams.
Chartway's Ben Devonshire said: "In a project of this scale we needed a modern, fast and efficient construction method.
Light gauge steel infill walling has a strong track record of delivering this, and Metsec leads the field in design and manufacture in the UK."".
