Higher strength purlins reduce structure weight
The Metsec range of purlin, side rail and mezzanine floor systems now includes several new profiles, and all sections will now be manufactured from 450 N/mm high yield steel for greater strength.
From June 2008 the Metsec range will be manufactured from 450 N/mm high yield steel for greater strength.
With world steel prices rising sharply at the moment, steelwork designers and fabricators are naturally seeking every way to reduce building weight without compromising on structural performance.
Metsec's decision to upgrade to 450 yield steel is therefore an obvious commercial and environmental decision which can reduce the weight, and the cost, of the completed structure.
In addition to their extensive range of building shell systems, Metsec is also launching a comprehensive new range of mezzanine floor systems to allow for the quick and easy development of additional internal floor space.
Metsec mezzanine floor systems can be installed either as part of the initial construction of the building or as a subsequent addition when more floor space is required within an existing structure.
Want to make the most of the new product range? It's easy.
Metsec has produced a comprehensive new manual for its Z and C-sections with updated load tables and many new illustrations for details and connections.
The company's highly respected MetSPEC design software package has also been completely updated and enhanced.
MetSPEC 11, incorporating FloorSPEC 5, is now available on an easy to use CD written by Metsec's own software engineers and is available free of charge to all designers and fabricators - simply register online.
Metsec Group Technical Director and Purlin Division General Manager Roy Burns said, "The introduction of our new range is the most significant development for our Purlin Division in a generation.
Our new manual and MetSPEC 11 design software ensure that every customer can get the optimum commercial and environmental solution for both building shell and mezzanine applications quickly and easily".
This launch comes at a time when Metsec also received national recognition for their on-going sustainability work finishing highly placed in the 2008 Sunday Times Best Green Companies Awards.
This is a project designed to encourage, acknowledge and publicise businesses and other organisations striving to improve their environmental performance.
Metsec plc is the UK's largest specialist cold roll-forming company, providing structural steel components for the UK construction and manufacturing industries.
The Structures Division produces a wide range of building shell and mezzanine floor systems, long-span lattice beams and trusses as well as light gauge framing systems, including site-fixed infill panels or stand-alone Metframe superstructures currently up to 9 storeys high.
