ParkUp is a modular steel decking system designed to provide additional parking above existing surface level car parks

Ideal for both temporary and permanent installations, the system features a clear span design enabling free unrestricted movement beneath the deck The versatile system can be assembled in an unlimited variety of plan shapes

"We have spoken to people in a wide variety of market sectors explains Jim Day, Managing Director of Mabey Support Systems, we have had interest from the construction industry for relatively short term project driven use requiring alternative public parking and even site accommodation support on otherwise congested sites" "Problems with car parking capacity at hospitals, stations and universities are well publicised, ParkUp can provide a solution that can be quickly and simply procured on a hire or sale basis." Adds Mr Day.

Although safe, quick and easy to erect and dismantle, ParkUp incorporates features normally found only in permanent structures.

These include pedestrian and vehicle barriers, one and two-way ramps, staircases and an integrated surface water drainage system.

The fully waterproofed, anti-skid decking is clearly marked with colour-coded parking bays, pedestrian routes and roadways.

The steel supporting structure features height-adjustable supporting columns and base plates that means that in most cases, ParkUp can be erected straight onto the existing car park surface with no foundations being required.

ParkUp has been developed from Mabey's well-proven Mass 25 and Quickbridge systems.

2.5m wide parking bays are provided as recommended by the Institute Of Structural Engineers for short-term parking, together with full width two-way aisles Lighting for both the upper and lower levels is available and all the main decking elements are painted in a light-reflective finish for maximum visibility and safety.

Mabey can supply a choice of cladding systems for the barriers and columns to suit specific locations and to enhance the appearance of the system.

ParkUp is designed to meet all relevant British Standards for multi-storey car parks and is designed in accordance with the Institution of Structural Engineers' "Design Recommendations for Multi-storey and Underground Car Parks (Third Edition)".

"Theoretically it is possible to erect a multi-storey car-park using ParkUp, although foundations would, of course, be required in most cases" says Mr Day.

However, even with a single-storey ParkUp installation, retailers will be able to accommodate more customers, local authorities will be able to reduce street parking in busy town centres, and more commuters will be able to leave their cars at the station and take the train instead.
