Moeller's Xcontrol Changes The Thinking On Logic
New range of programmable logic controllers has super power compared with other PLCs.
As part of its substantial on-going commitment to developing advanced new automation products, Moeller Electric has unveiled a radically different PLC technology.
The programmable logic controller has evolved slowly over many years, but Moeller's new XControl range takes the device a huge step forward in both performance and design.
The striking new mechanical design is the first obvious difference between the X600 and other PLCs.
Rather than assemble the power supply, CPU and I/O modules along a rack or DIN rail, the new Moeller design builds units out from a base module using futuristic looking convex curved modules.
The units can be attached and detached without tools, are housed in sturdy metal frames and save valuable panel space.
The other significant new designs of the PLC lie housed within, for the functionality of the units is where the less apparent, but greatest, changes have been effected.
Top of the range is the high-specification XControl XC600, which represents a step forward from standard PLCs.
Based on an open software and hardware platform, its versatility makes it ideal for machine control and panel building.
An integrated Ethernet interface and built-in OPC server enable the PLC functions to integrate with IT operations, such as data acquisition, telecontrol, service plant and management applications.
The XControl has Internet connectivity and both device or process status and programming can be effected via the Web.
A large memory capacity and fast operating speed emphasise its suitability for complex applications.
The XControl XC600's modules are equipped with PC/104 cards.
The base module enables local connection of I/O modules and easy mounting to a top-hat rail.
The basic equipment also includes a power supply module, a CPU module and an operator module.
The operator module allows convenient access via displays and menus, even without a programming device or panel display being connected.
Up to three network modules, such as PROFIBUS DP or CANopen master modules, or other customer-specific PC/104 cards, can be inserted between the power supply and CPU modules.
Peripheral equipment can be directly plugged in via the XI/OC or XI/ON I/O systems or coupled via fieldbus networks, such as PROFIBUS DP or CANopen.
Fieldbus can link XC600 systems to other XControl PLCs, or to a higher-level network.
The PLC has integrated digital inputs and outputs and brings IT functionality to the shop floor.
The XControl range, which forms part of Moeller's XSystem, enable bespoke tailoring for applications by ensuring data consistency with reduced cost engineering.
There is the capability for individual I/O configuration, there are plug-in or screw-in connections and networking is simple and inexpensive.
Complimenting the XControl XC600 are the XC100 and XC200, which can be combined with XVision, a series of text and touch panel displays for simple and economical machine operation.
Together, XControl and XVision can form a modular MMI PLC with IT functionality in a space saving design.
Programming is done using XSoft software, which controls configuration, testing, commissioning and visualisation.
Programming time and complexity is considerably reduced by XSoft's powerful test and commissioning functions, which include offline simulation and online modifications.
