The Impact Partnership, which includes Mouchel Parkman, has been awarded a commission to develop proposals and procure a contractor partner for a new GBP16.5m academy.

The Impact Partnership - a joint venture partnership between Mouchel Parkman, Agilisys and Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council - has been awarded a commission to develop proposals and procure a contractor partner for a new GBP16.5m academy on the site of the existing Queen Elizabeth High School in Middleton Impact's 10-member project team, led by Iain Gammack, will submit the Outline Business Case, including the building design to RIBA Stage D, by the end of December 2007

"This academy programme is running alongside the Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme; both government initiatives will transform secondary education", explained Iain Gammack.

"The proposed academy will open first in the existing buildings of Queen Elizabeth School and the new building will be available by September 2010." Terry Piggott, Executive Director of RMBC, said: "We are very pleased to announce that Rochdale has been selected as a Wave 4 Authority to receive funding under the Building Schools for the Future programme; a major government initiative to transform secondary teaching and learning".

"Some GBP166.5m has been formally allocated to re-organise provision and rebuild secondary schools throughout the borough".

St Anne's Academy will have two specialist areas - ICT and the built environment - and will provide 150 post-16 places.

As well as the more academic routes, students will have the opportunity to access a whole range of careers in the building trade.

The project is being sponsored by the Church of England and private backers David and Anne Crossland, founders of travel company Airtours, who have pledged GBP1.5 million.

The Academy Project Steering Group comprises Mouchel Parkman, the sponsors, the Department for Education and Skills, and the local authority.
