Mowlem Building (East Anglia) is now nearing completion of Phase 2a of Cambridge Retail Park, involving the design and construction of six non-food retail units totalling 125,000 sq ft.

Following the successful completion of the first phase of Cambridge Retail Park, Mowlem Building (East Anglia) is now nearing completion of Phase 2a, involving the design and construction of a further six non-food retail units totalling 125,000 sq ft The site was previously used by the Council as a landfill site and as a result the new units are being supported on over 1200 driven precast concrete piles up to 25m deep

The ground floor is a fibre-reinforced laser-screeded large pour concrete slab finished with a surface hardener.

Because of its previous use the development is protected by a gas membrane with active gas venting and has a gas detection system inside the buildings.

The aluminium and terracotta cladding and roof covering was installed by one of Mowlem's specialist businesses, Mowlem Cladding.

In addition a five week fit-out contract for Homebase worth ?750,000 was secured for the largest unit, which will be opening on Boxing Day 2003.

David Hurricks of Mowlem Building (East Anglia) commented: "We are delighted to have been working on this design and build contract, which will provide further job opportunities in the area at the same time as helping to regenerate the region." Phase 2a will be completed this month with Phase 2b due for completion in March 2004.
