Multibuild completes GBP1.4m psychiatric unit for CovenAnt Healthcare

A GBP1.4m project to create the Churchill Gisburn Clinic adult psychiatric facility in Lancashire has been completed for Covenant Healthcare by leading contractor Multibuild The new clinic is situated in the grounds of the Abbey Gisburne Park Hospital, a grade 1 listed 18th century Georgian country mansion just outside the village of Gisburn

The acute psychiatric unit has been designed to provide male patients with a tranquil environment and consists of 16 private bedrooms with en-suite facilities, a communal day room, dining room, gymnasium, games room, therapy rooms and consultation rooms.

Multibuild worked with architects Manning Elliott of Penrith to deliver the 32 week project on time.

A key brief for Multibuild was to ensure that the building's exterior was sympathetic to that of the original 18th century brickwork, rendering and stone, in order to preserve the character of the setting.

Multibuild contract manager for the project Paul Mathison said: "Special care was taken in the management of the site because of the proximity of the existing medical facilities, to minimise noise and disruption to the operation of the business.

"The completion of the major project demonstrates that Multibuild is equipped to deliver the exceptionally high standards and high quality results demanded within an intensely competitive market".

Following its success in this project and others in the healthcare sector, Multibuild is also under way on the GBP1.2 million contract to design and build a new 10-bed Special Needs Centre in Stoke on Trent.

Working with its client Guardian Care Group, Multibuild and architects Tarpey Barrett are creating the facility with its activity area, relaxation room and sensory room, which is due to open in Autumn 2005.
