Experienced construction and fit-out contractor Multibuild secures new GBP9m contract from developer Urban i.

The contract covers the construction of a new 118-bedroom, seven-storey Premier Inn hotel in Doncaster and its 55-week construction schedule is due to complete in April 2009.

"This will be a testing project as the footprint of the new building will take up all the space on the site," comments Paul Garstang, Operations Director at Multibuild.

"There are no car parks or other areas where we can store materials so these will have to be delivered to site on a 'just-in-time' basis.

However, we have worked under this type of restriction many times in the past and are well versed in the sort of careful planning and logistics that are needed".

Multibuild's ability to complete complex foundation work will also be displayed by this project.

A considerable amount of piling work will be required along with the creation of a new basement level, and this must be completed without disturbing a number of archaeologically significant remains which lie directly below the site.

"Our experience will help us overcome the restrictions that this project imposes and still deliver the completed hotel on time and to budget," adds Paul.

"We have a long-standing relationship with the Premier Inn brand and have completed a very long list of Premier Inn projects in the past, so we fully understand the high levels of quality and adherence to budgets that are required.

"This will be a very significant building in Doncaster once it's completed.

We will be using six different types of finish on various parts of the hotel including copper, terracotta, render and cedar boarding.

It will also feature a roof garden so the completed hotel is set to become a very high profile local landmark".
