Mumford and Wood delivers bespoke period windows

A Mumford and Wood product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Aug 26, 2010

Bespoke windows by Mumford and Wood have been specified for a property refurbishment in London which offers mixed-use accommodation of private housing, retail units and commercial office space.

The specialist manufacturer of period-style, high performance windows and doors, Mumford and Wood has addressed design issues of both sash and casement windows and doorsets in order to match the original fenestration.

The extensive structural refurbishment of the building involved the retention of the current facades although the property was underpinned and the existing basement slab removed, replaced and lowered.

Mumford and Wood's current window specification designs were adapted to meet the external detailing of the existing frame sections.

Meeting rails on the replacement double glazed windows were required to stay in the same position in order to line up with stone features and brick work in the retained facades.

The windows and fanlights were fitted internally in a check reveal showing only the exact frame proportions which matched the original windows.

Mumford and Wood's Conservation products are manufactured from premium quality, clear grade Larch which is engineered and laminated to achieve strength, durability and stability.

Double glazed products are factory finished, have BFRC energy ratings from A to C, depending on specification, and carry the Secured by Design, Energy Trust and BSI Kitemark badges of distinction.
