However, wet storage stain, a common problem with galvanizing, can spoil the finish of a new building.
A new thin organic coating called Hydroclear from MacDermid can prevent this and show newly finished buildings as they were designed to look.

Apart from being a functional coating giving long term corrosion resistance with low maintenance costs, hot dip galvanizing also lends character and image to a building.
The bright silvery surface of a galvanized structure is often used as a feature in building design, to add a striking contrast to traditional materials or to complement the glass facade of a modern structure.
Wet storage stain can occur on newly galvanized components and although these stains are not detriment to the overall life or performance of the coating they do look unsightly, especially on a newly finished building.
Hexavalent chromium salts such as potassium dichromate have traditionally been used to passivate the freshly galvanized surface and help reduce wet storage stain, but due to reclassification of hexavalent chromium as a class 1 carcinogen, designers are reluctant to continue specifying it.
Hydroclear from MacDermid is a simple to used water based thin film polymer product that can be applied to a galvanized surface by dip or spray and will provide protection from wet storage stain during construction of the building.
The Hydroclear does not contain any chromium or toxic heavy metals and will preserve the bright finish of the galvanizing and allow a slow transition to the normal patina that gives hot dip galvanizing its traditional look.
Hydroclear is used extensively in Europe and has been applied to many large buildings and structures, for example the galvanized seating for the Veltins Schalke Sport Arena in Gelsenkirchen and the external structure for the Skihalle in Neuss.
Hydroclear is designed to protect the galvanized surface short term, during transport, storage and initial construction, however local conditions can extend the effect of the coating for some considerable time.
As an example, the 50,000 seats in the Schalke Arena were still bright and attractive after two years of use.
To ensure your building gets its first public viewing, looking as the designer intended, specify Hydroclear from your galvanizer. Request a free brochure from MacDermid ...
