Step closer to single voice for roofing
industry
Following discussions between the Flat Roofing Alliance and The National Federation of Roofing Contractors, a small informal working body titled the Joint Roofing Council has been formed.
The idea for the JRC, which will be chaired by Sir Michael Latham, was born out of a need for a unified industry voice on key issues which affect the broader roofing and construction industry However, a core objective of the body will be to eradicate duplication of effort made by associations and the sharing of common information and services

Roofing and cladding in windy conditions
The NFRC has published its updated guidelines on the hazards of working in windy conditions.
In time, it is hoped that this initiative will be endorsed by other forward thinking roofing trade associations.
The first official step in the creation of the Joint Roofing Council has been to use the recent move of NFRC head office as the catalyst for the co-location of both FRA and the NFRC into a shared office suite at Roofing House, 31 Worship Street, London EC2A 2DY.
This move will help create savings for both associations and enable closer liaison and synchronisation of efforts.
As a spokesperson for the NFRC and FRA explained; "We are in an excellent position to take advantage of this opportunity to better represent our respective members' interests, and the interests of the wider roofing industry".
"This unison will provide a powerful image when presenting our issues to Government and main contractor bodies, creating a position from which we can really impact and influence our own industry".
"With regards to the new offices and the sharing of resources, we anticipate that we can demonstrate savings and explore the idea of a common fee base for all our members".
"We are confident that our members will be supportive during this period of exploration.".
