Excellence in Roofing Awards winners
announced
UK roofing industry celebrated and recognised outstanding industry achievements at The National Federation of Roofing Contractors Annual Congress awards.
TV presenter, Matt Allwright, who has made a name for himself investigating and confronting cowboys frequently in the building trade, presented the awards to the best projects across the major roofing disciplines, health and safety high achievers, and the young winners of the Skillbuild and International Roofing Federation competition winners NFRC was joined by both the European Liquid Waterproofing Association (ELWA) and the Single Ply Roofing Association (SPRA) in presenting the awards

National Federation of Roofing Contractors has launched the development of a National Heritage Roofer List that identifies reliable and quality slating and tiling heritage roofing specialists.

* Roof sheeting - Lakesmere , Aintree Racecourse.
* Single ply - Robseal Roofing , The London Maggie's Centre.
* Reinforced bituminous membrane (RBM) - WAA Roofing (entered by Permanite Engineered Roofing Systems), Glebe Housing Association.
* Liquid waterproofing - Miller Roofing, Maggie's Centre.
* Green roofs - Sterling Building Systems , Shortwood Primary School.
* Wooden shingles and shakes - Reed Roofing (Midlands) , Copal Group, (entered by John Brash and Company ), All Saints Medical Centre.
Of all the Safety in Roofing Award applicants the following received the highest score in their roofing discipline.
M Camilleri and Sons Roofing for slating and tiling, Sterling Building Systems for flat roofing and, for the third year running, Impwood Roofing received the award for sheeting and cladding.
Gold, silver and bronze awards were presented to a large number of members at the regional annual general meetings.
Sean McGregor, Contract Manager at Birmingham's Sharkey and Company was awarded the Safety in Roofing individual achievement award for the excellent safety rating he maintained on the company's RAF Cosford project.
UK's young roofers including the winners of the 2007 Skillbuild competition and the UK representatives in the International Roofing Federation competition were formally recognised by the industry at the lunch.
The Skillbuild winners included Greg Gagliarde for roof slating and tiling, Alan Fulton and Lee Mallin for sheeting and cladding and Terry Hastings for reinforced bituminous membrane.
Representing Great Britain in the pitched roofing category were James Hill and Neil Brown and in the flat roofing William McIntyre and Terry Peck.
Alan Fulton and Lee Mallin also received a special recognition for their sheeting and cladding demonstration at the international competition.
Long serving NFRC Board member and past President, Peter Rogerson, received the highest NFRC award, Honorary Life Membership.
Alex Owens term as NFRC President came to an end, and Mr Owens presented the chain of office to the incoming President, Mike Long from the South West region.
NFRC was proud to have RCi magazine, Yellow Pages, BandCE Benefit Schemes, Construction Skills and Electrical Contractors Insurance Company as partners for the event.
