Centaur Exhibitions announces that despite the economic downturn, its consumer property shows have shown an increase in visitors year-on-year.

More than 73,000 visitors attended The Homebuilding and Renovating Shows and The National Home Improvement show during 2009, which represents an increase of 7 per cent on 2008.

This increase in visitors mirrors the findings of a recent report by AMA on the self-build market which reported that "the demand for self build is high in this country".

Recent surveys, including The RICS Housing Market Survey, published last month, indicate that the housing market is strengthening with house prices rising for the fourth month a row.

Show director, Nick Noble is encouraged by the figures and the positive news in the housing market, commenting: "We had fully anticipated a challenging year in 2009 and we worked harder and were more creative about what we offered our exhibitors and visitors".

"This has clearly paid off".

"With the property market becoming stronger, we are looking forward to The National Homebuilding and Renovating Show, on at the NEC in March, where we expect to see a further increase in visitors".

The report from AMA also reveals the savings that can be made when self building: "Estimates suggests that undertaking a self-build project can save anywhere between 20-30 per cent (excluding land costs) compared with someone who was buying a similar sized home".

"Depending upon the location, typical savings could now easily amount to an estimated GBP50,000-GBP75,000 on an average sized three bedroom property".

The National Homebuilding and Renovating Show takes place at the NEC from 18-21 March 2010.
