Former National Construction College (NCC) South student, Rob Creighton, has won bronze at the recent 53rd International Federation of Roofing (IFD) competition held in Cape Town, South Africa Rob Creighton and his team partner, Ross Marsden, represented Great Britain in the Roofing, Tiling and Slating category of the IFD competition, which is seen as an opportunity to profile the best young people in the world working in the roofing trade

Rob and Ross won the gold and silver medals respectively at last year's Skillbuild competition and this winning combination made them eligible to enter this year's international roofing competition, which is sponsored annually by the National Federation of Roofing Contractors.

As part of the IFD competition, the men were assessed over an intense three day period, which focused on testing their slating, tiling and creative skills.

Senior instructor at NCC South, John Sheppard, accompanied Rob Creighton to South Africa for the international competition.

He said: "NCC is extremely proud of the team's efforts and their performance at the competition, it is a credit to their hard work and also the quality of training they received.

"Currently, there is a massive shortage of people working in the construction industry, so it is important that Rob and Ross act as role models for other young people considering construction as a future career option".

Rob and Ross were up against nine other countries in this international competition, including Switzerland, Austria, South Africa, Belgium, Latvia, Poland, Germany, Hungary, Slovenia and Ireland.

Rob Creighton undertook a two year apprenticeship with NCC South in Roof Slating and Tiling and has now completed his training and is working for Premier Roofing in Portsmouth.

The National Construction College is the training division of CITB-ConstructionSkills and is the largest provider of training for the construction industry in the UK, offering both young apprentices and adult students a wide range of specialist construction training.

National Construction College South is based in Erith and is one of five sites in the country, which, along with 60 or so other locations across the UK, help provide construction training for over 30,000 people every year.
