Independent research reveals that the National Construction College (NCC) is the largest construction training provider in Europe

Independent research launched today reveals that the National Construction College (NCC) is the largest construction training provider in Europe, training over 40,000 adults and apprentices a year The survey, conducted by IRN Research, covered the 80 leading providers of construction and building services training in the UK and Europe, in order to establish a list of the top 20 providers in the UK and the top five in Europe

NCC topped the training establishment league table in the UK - followed by JTL and the Manchester College of Arts and Technology - in the number of students it trains annually, the number of staff it employs and the number of courses it offers.

In Europe, NCC trains more people annually than closest rivals: Formedil in Italy and Fundacion Loboral de la Construccion Nacional network in Spain.

David Boyden, NCC Director, commented: "This research confirms our belief that we are the largest provider of construction training in the UK, and we are delighted to see that extends to Europe as well.

"We see this very much as an endorsement of the high quality training we provide to both adults and apprentices, and take pride in being able to offer our trainees academic skills and practical experience.

This is largely due to the expertise and commitment of our instructors, as well as our unique facilities".

The National Construction College provides over 250 different construction training courses to adults and young apprentices, which range from scaffolding and plant to health and safety and a variety of management courses.

It is the direct training arm of CITB-ConstructionSkills, and has five sites across the country, which, along with 60 other locations in the UK and Internet-based courses, helps provide construction training for 40,000 people every year.

The college was recently awarded the Sword of Honour from the British Safety Council, making it one of the top 40 safest organisations in the world.

Opportunities are plentiful for those interested in a career in construction with many high profile construction projects on the horizon such as the £63 million Thames Gateway development and, of course, the London 2012 Olympic schemes.

The latest Skills Foresight Report from CITB-ConstructionSkills shows that 88,000 people a year are currently needed to fill management, technology and craft roles in order to meet current demand.
