Maintenance tower crane courses launched

The National Construction College (NCC) joins forces with leading plant manufacturer, JCB, to create specialist training.
The college has been working with the Construction Plant Association's (CPA) Tower Crane Interest Group and other industry partners to develop the courses.
The 'Introduction to the Thorough Examination of Tower Cranes' and 'Introduction to the Management of Tower Cranes' have been designed to ensure that those managing and undertaking tower crane examinations are aware of current legislation and their responsibilities within this, as well providing them with the right skills for best practice approach when it comes to maintaining tower cranes.
NCC Plant Manager, Andy Newell, said: "It is vital to provide those working in the tower crane sector with the right training, to ensure that they have the best skills and knowledge possible to carry out their work and help make the sector a safer one in which to work".

National Construction College (NCC) and CITB-ConstructionSkills are participating in a European Union funded initiative to improve standards of scaffolding and access training across Europe.
NCC launch Management Master Classes
The National Construction College has developed an innovative range of project management courses for construction managers.
"We already run an extensive training programme for operating tower cranes at the college, but there is a definite need in the industry for training courses specifically focused on the maintenance of tower cranes.
"We undertook pilots of two courses which were extremely successful and the new courses are now proving to be very popular".
"Through developing these courses with industry partners and through our experienced instructors, we aim to provide the industry with high quality training at first class facilities".
The 'Introduction to the Management of the Thorough Examination of Tower Cranes' is a two day course and offers foundation training to those managing the examination of tower cranes, as well as other relevant construction plant.
Delegates will be provided with training on the role of a competent person, the legal framework for the Health and Safety Regulations, as well as understanding all the information contained in the 'Thorough Examination of Tower Cranes' report.
Time will also be spent specifically looking at the management role and an introduction to the accreditations available.
The 'Introduction to the Thorough Examination of Tower Cranes' is a three day course and offers foundation training for those selected to undertake the examination of tower canes.
Delegates will be provided with training on the role of a competent person and the legal framework for the Health and Safety at Work Act, with a large proportion of time being spent on practical training for all the different inspections that need to be undertaken on tower cranes.
Learners from both courses will be assessed using tests from the 'Thorough Examination' documentation.
As the direct training division of ConstructionSkills the College offers outstanding training to both young apprentices and adult students for a wide range of specialist courses, which are delivered by experienced instructors at first class training facilities.
The College's five sites across the country provide training for more than 30,000 people per year.
