Suppliers key to NCC Future

A National Construction College product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Nov 24, 2008

National Construction College (NCC) move a step closer to producing a fully qualified construction workforce, through the donation of equipment for training.

Suppliers including JCB and Lafarge have provided the College, which has six sites around the UK, with a variety of equipment ranging from plant machinery to pan tiles, to help them train both adult students and apprentices in numerous construction trades.

The College, which is the training division of ConstructionSkills and is Europe's largest construction training provider, relies on these essential donations to help it to continue to provide excellent training.

Andy Walder, Director of the National Construction College, said: "It is more important than ever, in the current economic climate, for businesses to invest in training".

"The generosity of our suppliers helps the College by unburdening our instructors, allowing them to work with top quality, new equipment or products, so we can train people to the highest standards with strong business support for what we do".

"We are very grateful to these businesses and we would like to encourage them to continue to work with us to help train the construction workforce of tomorrow".

"Companies that the College has worked with include Lafarge, Redland Roof Tiles, and Cupa Slates, which supply roof tiles and slates to the NCC to help train its roofing students".

"The College also receives support in the form of plant and equipment from organisations including Komatsu, JCB, Barford Dumpers, Caterpillar, MGF and Ground Force to help students on general construction and plant related courses".

"Michael O'Hara, Business Development Manager at MGF, said: "We have been supplying the National Construction College with specialist excavation support equipment for the past two years.

Many of our customers approach us with regards to training, so the partnership with the NCC benefits MGF because we are able to refer our customers to the College, thereby meeting their training needs, in addition to building our own profile by being associated with the College".

"It also allows us to play our part in meeting the industry's needs by ensuring that accredited training is being delivered, using the most up to date equipment".

The National Construction College offers outstanding training to both young apprentices and adult students for a wide range of specialist courses, which are delivered by experienced instructors at first class training facilities.

The College's six sites across the country provide training for more than 30,000 people per year.
