Nene Group win contract to provide a complete racking installation for Samworth Distribution's new chill store extension at its distribution centre in Leicestershire.

Utilising the new FEM compliant Stow Pal Rack pallet racking system the Nene Group has created 1100 new pallet locations Samworth Brothers is a privately owned family business and a leading UK company manufacturing a range of quality various food products

The Group employs a workforce of 5,500 within 13 operating companies, which are split between Leicestershire and Cornwall.

Ongoing expansion necessitated the building of the extension needed to accommodate the growing volumes of lines through the Leicestershire Woodside facility.

With space at a premium, as no further expansion is possible at the site, Samworth Distribution needed a company that had the experience and technical ability to maximise the space available.

Already familiar with the Nene Group's reputation for quality and service and having been recommended to the company by its materials handling supplier, Samworth Distribution selected the Nene Group to carry out the GBP28,000 contract.

In-depth consultations with the Samworth Distribution's management and detailed site surveys to determine product profile and throughput expectations allowed the Nene Group's design team to create the optimum solution utilising CAD drawings to maximise use of the building height and so that pallets could be easily accessed by reach trucks.

To cater for the various sizes and weight of pallets, the Nene Group recommended the Stow Pal Rack pallet racking system, which has been specifically designed for this purpose.

To facilitate the storage of different types of pallets, the Nene Group supplied the racking beams in two different colours.

All items were delivered and installed within an extremely tight time frame of just over two weeks.

This enabled Samworth Distribution to move seamlessly into its new cold store facility without interruption to customer service.

"Nene took time to finalise the layout and understand our requirements", said Nathan Leach, Assistant Distribution Manager at Samworth Distribution.

"The site management was first class and the installation was carried out on budget, on time and as specified".

"We are delighted with the product specification and can honestly say it was a job well done".
