Nottinghamshire Construction Forum has appointed East Midlands' law firm Nelsons to act as its legal representative and advisor.

Nottinghamshire Construction Forum (NCF), a vibrant body of construction professionals from across the county who have come together with the aim of building a prosperous future at the forefront of the UK construction industry, has appointed East Midlands' law firm Nelsons to act as its legal representative and advisor The move follows NCF's establishment as a Company Limited by Guarantee, which could make it eligible for European and UK Government funding in the future

Originally set up in 2001, NCF offers vital networking and support to Nottinghamshire-based construction companies, and has close links with the CITB and Learning Skills Council in Nottinghamshire.

Its objective is to help local businesses prosper while tackling the ongoing challenges of skills shortages, technological advances and changes in working practices.

NCF membership comprises frontline companies together with associated professional groups such as RIBA, RICS and CIOB, and bodies including Business Link Nottinghamshire, Constructing Excellence, Nottingham City and Nottinghamshire County Councils.

Mervyn Brown, chair of NCF and managing director of Combined Environmental Services based in Beeston, says of the decision to appoint Nelsons to look after its legal interests: "Nelsons has always been highly supportive of the Forum and we have every confidence in them having a more intrinsic role during the next phase of our growth".

"NCF fulfils the need for 'one voice' to represent the construction sector in Nottinghamshire and provides a very powerful support infrastructure with opportunities to network, identify common interests, and examine and take action on key industry issues".

"Everyone involved with NCF is helping to develop a strong and growing community that actively works together to maximise and retain available business for companies within the region.

We're also working with the CITB, local Learning and Skills Council, Business Link Notts, EMDA and local colleges through the major CoVE initiative to attract new people into the industry and develop a well-trained, multi-skilled workforce".

"As a recently formed company, we are now poised to look for additional sources of funding to help us to achieve our focused aims and objectives".

"It is an exciting time and we welcome any other like-minded organisations and companies that would like to join us".

Jocelyn Taylor, partner and head of the construction team at Nelsons, adds: "Nelsons has been involved with NCF and its professional group since its conception and we are delighted to be selected to act as its legal advisor".

"We are looking forward to making a bigger contribution to its initiatives to help the construction industry in the county".

Nelsons' construction team has substantial experience and specialist knowledge of working in the construction sector, handling a range of matters including contracts, disputes, company and partnership formation, acquisitions and disposals, site assembly and all land law associated with development work.

The team also includes specialist advisors in areas such as health and safety, environmental, debt collection, employment law and investigations by authorities such as the Inland Revenue, HM Customs and Excise, DTI or the police.

NCF hosts bi-monthly breakfast meetings at New College Nottingham (CoVE) and an occasional conference.

It also operates an External Liaison Group for Professionals and a Human Resources Sub Group to tackle workforce development and raise awareness of career opportunities via schools.
