The 'Tough Guy' Nettle Warrior event is a physically gruelling, mentally demanding endurance test and Newlec helped power two of the Tough Guys over the finish line.

Every year on the last Sunday in July one of the toughest survival training ordeals in the UK takes place The 'Tough Guy' Nettle Warrior event is a physically gruelling, mentally demanding endurance test based on the US Navy S.E.A.L.S.'Grinder' Assault Course

Over 2,300 people took part this year in Wolverhampton and Newlec helped power two of the Tough Guys over the finish line in just over 3 hours.

Sponsored by Newlec, David Baskett (31) and Ian Joslin (33) raised a remarkable £1200 for charity, to be split equally between the NSPCC and Cancer Research UK.

The course is 8 country miles long and competitors must hot foot it across fields of giant stinging nettles, muddy swamps and obstacles.

These include 10 steep slalom hill climbs, barbed wire, walls of fire, A-frame cargo nets, 30 ft walls and 15m underwater tunnels with no air pockets - and that's just for starters.

Andy Moseley, director of own brand development for Newlec said: "It's a real achievement and we were more than happy to sponsor these guys to take part in something so hard".

"We are committed to 'helping people work well' so we thought we would extend this to 'helping people get tough' for the day".

"They raised an admirable amount of money for some very worthwhile causes and it sounds like they earned every penny".

David Baskett, Tough Guy competitor added: "We've been training for this for months but nothing could quite prepare us for what we encountered on the day".

"It was definitely one of the hardest and maddest things I've ever done but we haven't been put off and we're already planning to compete next year and beat our time".

"We're really grateful to Newlec for getting behind us and sponsoring us to take part".

Newlec offers contractors and installers the widest range of electrical products under one brand, all exclusively available through Newey and Eyre.
