Pubs are taking action in order to combat the potential for a downturn in custom following the smoking ban last year, with sales of outdoor lighting, heating and controls soaring.

The company has witnessed a significant increase in sales of outdoor lighting products since the ban was introduced last July, with sales rising by 40% as drinkers are forced outside This is not the only change, as sales in heating products have also surged in a bid to keep smokers drinking at their favourite local instead of staying at home during the cold weather

And Newey and Eyre is expecting the market to see a sharp increase in ventilation systems when the summer approaches, as the smoking ban also has an impact on pubs and clubs indoors, as they seek to combat stale odours which were previously masked by tobacco smoke.

Gary Walker, category manager for heating, ventilation and air conditioning products, comments: "While it is widely accepted that the smoking ban has led to numerous benefits, it has undoubtedly impacted on pub trade with many smokers choosing to stay at home rather than brave the cold".

""A number of pubs, clubs and bars have been caught flouting the ban and been landed with hefty fines as a result.

By introducing outdoor lighting and heating, establishments are able to comply with the new regulations while, at the same time, providing a comfortable smoking environment for customers all year round.

We provide a great range of heating products, which in turn presents customers with a key opportunity to boost profits and cater for the needs of all customers.

"Controls are also playing a large part in keeping smokers comfortable".

"Pub owners are remaining mindful of energy efficiency and energy costs, and by choosing to install PIRs and thermostatic controls, they ensure that power for lighting and heating is only activated when required".

Newey and Eyre stocks a range of heating products to support these demands, including the Dimplex QXD range of Quartz Heaters, as well as the Consort QZWP15 1.5 kW heater which is IP65 rated, making it totally weatherproof and ideal for heating a patio or outdoor smoking area.
