Housing Minister Launches New Initiative

Housing Minister, Keith Hill, announced the launch of the 'Procurement Pack', a new initiative to help speed up delivery of affordable housing and decent homes using Private Finance Initiative.

At the NHBC annual lunch yesterday Housing Minister, Keith Hill announced the launch of the 'Procurement Pack', a new initiative to help speed up delivery of affordable housing and decent homes using Private Finance Initiative The Pack follows the production of similar packs for other Local Government PFI projects, including schools and street lighting

It provides a step-by-step guide through all the stages of developing a housing PFI project as well as standard contract documentation and is intended to speed up and reduce the cost of the PFI procurement process.

Speaking at the lunch the Housing Minister said: "This Government is committed to ensuring the delivery of the right type of housing in the right places.

Our £38bn Sustainable Communities Plan is the best opportunity we have had for generations to change the way we build - but we need the help of developers and the private sector to ensure we give our communities the full range of services they need." Imtiaz Farookhi NHBC's Chief Executive welcomed the announcement saying: "NHBC is pleased the private sector has been recognised for the role it can play in supporting the government's plans for affordable housing.

The private sector is able to contribute both valuable skills and financial expertise to help the government achieve its wider housing objectives".
