Improving standards of health and safety
A major drive to improve standards of health and safety in the Scottish house building industry has been launched.
In a bid to improve the company's health and safety record even further, Keepmoat, which includes companies Bramall Construction and Frank Haslam Milan, has set itself a series of targets.
It wants zero reportable accidents; a fully qualified workforce; site specific inductions; consultation with all workers on health and safety matters; best practice workshops; raised health and safety awareness and profile which insists on the highest standards.
It will also evaluate and undertake a programme of health surveillance for all employees.
Roger Ward, Managing Director for Keepmoat Regeneration, said: "The impact of measuring and tracking type and cause of accidents has highlighted areas where improvements can be made for the health, safety and welfare of all persons on site".
"The sharing of best practice throughout the group is invaluable and allows the business to develop a proactive approach with respect to the health and safety of the workforce".
NHBC reviews Keepmoat's health and safety practices annually and attends site visits under the Audit and Accreditation scheme.
The scheme is designed to reduce construction related incidents on site by ensuring organisations understand and implement their health and safety procedures appropriately.
Simon Mantle, NHBC's Health and Safety manager, said: "Keepmoat Regeneration is a perfect example of a company tasking all within the workforce, from the boardroom to the building site, to take responsibility for the site's and their own health and safety".
"As a result Keepmoat has established best practice, which improves workforce morale and prevents accidents.".
