NHIC Awards focus on housing modernisations
A major category in this year's NHIC awards scheme is for a housing association modernisation project that shows innovation of significant benefit to the community.
Sponsored by the Electrical Contractor's Association in conjunction with the National Housing Federation, this is the principal award out of 10 separate categories in the National Home Improvement Council's (NHIC) award scheme.
In this category the judges will be looking for the scheme that has been completed in the past 12 months embracing all the ingredients of a first class upgrade including attention to residents' ideas and aspirations, good design, energy efficiency, easy access, appropriate accommodation and storage.
It will also have taken full account of communal facilities and be a project which could be successfully repeated elsewhere in the UK.
The NHIC Annual Awards have been running since 1975 and have become one of the most highly regarded schemes in the housing arena.
The closing date for submissions is Friday 10 September 2010.
Full details of the NHIC Annual Awards appear on the website nhicawards2010.org.uk, where a submission or submissions including text and images can be presented as pdfs.
Alternatively, hardcopy submissions can be sent through the post.
Amongst the other categories for 2010 Awards are those reflecting the current priorities and pressures affecting all housing providers.
For example, there's the latest requirements for energy efficiency to help reduce households' carbon footprints, fuel safety in the home and, of course, innovation of which there seems to be an abundance amongst the UK's local authorities and housing associations.
Winners and runners up are notified during October and the Awards are presented by a Government Minister at a luncheon in London on Thursday 4 November 2010.
