Is your MDF really sustainable?
Board products such as Norbord's Sterling OSB, Caberwood MDF and Caberboard particleboard, contribute to the sustainability of timber frame.
Caberwood sets the standard for MDF
Norbord's Caberwood brand has an illustrious past; the company was the world's first manufacturer of MDF, developing the product in 966 at its facility in Deposit, New York State.
But weighing 10 kg/sq m compared to the 13 kg/sq m of typical standard MDF, Caberwood Light is ideal for use in applications where weight is a factor - such as the manufacture of caravans or the construction of temporary retail displays and transferable shop units.
Caberwood MDF Light is available in thicknesses from 12 mm to 25 mm and is produced to the same exacting dimensional tolerances as its heavier equivalents.
Its lower density means that, board for board, Caberwood Light consumes less raw material than heavier MDF products and is consequently less expensive.
In addition to this economic advantage, the efficient use of raw materials has environmental benefits which enhance Caberwood's already impressive sustainable credentials.
As with all Norbord products, Caberwood MDF is made from timber grown in sustainably-managed European forests and certified to Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) standards.
Caberwood MDF Light also shares the same E1 low emission resin binders as all other Caberwood products, ensuring that formaldehyde emissions fall safely within the limits dictated by the latest BS EC 120 standard.
By delivering a 20% weight reduction, Caberwood MDF Light opens up a range of design possibilities that would be difficult to achieve with a heavier product.
And for the user, there is an added bonus in that the lighter material is easier to work and will prolong the life of tools and equipment. Request a free brochure from Norbord ...
