Developments in Government Planning Policy: What Is Now Required Of Local Authorities? During this opening discussion, delegates will hear how Government planning policy has and will change.
Greening the UK town planning conference
It will outline the powers local authorities and communities now have, what the Big Society agenda will mean for planning and what the implications of these reforms will be for the delivery of urban green space and planting.
Tackling Climate Change: Designing a Landscape to Mitigate and Adapt to Climate Change.
This session will explore the impact of green space and strategic planting on promoting a green urban environment.
It will discuss issues surrounding climate change adaptation and mitigation including its ability to combat flooding and reduce the energy loads of building.
Generating social and economic development through planting.
The session would provide background on the research undertaken into the effect of planting on the social and economic development of urban areas.
Green Infrastructure.
The session will discuss how green infrastructure works across all scale levels, ranging from the parish to national level.
It will show how multifunctional and connected green infrastructure has and is being delivered to generate significant environmental, social and economic benefits.
Case Studies.
This session will provide examples where developers have previously used green space and planting effectively and detail how they overcame obstacles that many town planners will worry about (for example, health and safety and perceptions of maintenance cost).
What services are available to help you? A session on what resources are available to assist planners, councillors and other stakeholders in assessing the positive and negative implications of using specific plants in certain situations.
This session will allow stakeholders to maximise the environment, social and cost benefits of their developments.
How Local Authorities Can Utilise Their Powers To Deliver More Sustainable Communities? This final session will provide a summary of the day from the President of the Planning Officers Society.
It will explore further the implications of Government policy and, through the use of case studies and best practice examples, will give practical guidance as to how town planners can use these new powers.
