Newsprint - High Thermal Value Loft Insulation
Natural Building Technologies (NBT), which specializes in ecologically sound building industry products, has introduced Warmcel100 a loose fill cellulose fibre insulation made from recycled newsprint.
At.040Wm/K it offers over 12% greater thermal performance than traditional insulation as well as having numerous other benefits.
The insulation is environmentally friendly, non-itchy and non-toxic, yet it is highly durable, treated against fire and even actively assists in the control of moisture - drawing vapour away from vulnerable timbers without any loss of thermal performance.
This is particularly important in older buildings.
By contrast mineral fibre insulations rapidly lose their thermal qualities when damp.
NBT's Warmcel 100 is supplied ready for use in 8 Kg bags (enough to cover 2.2m2 at 100 mm thick) and, being loose fill, is quick to install and always fits properly.
Poor fitting of quilt type insulation is commonplace, especially where access is restricted, such as in shallow pitch roofs or around trusses.
Warmcel can even be used in Otop-up1 situations where it fills any gaps or breaks in the existing insulation before adding the new layer on top.
According to the Building Research Establishment 3A disproportionate amount of heat is lost through the smallest of gapsı a problem eliminated with this insulation.
Warmcel-100 is manufactured in the UK accordance with BS5803, Part 3 : 1985 and has already been used in over a million homes throughout Europe.
