Ziegel Building Blocks, from ecological building materials specialist Natural Building Technologies, are a thin joint system that creates solid, load bearing walls that easily surpass the latest building regulations.

They are robust, a shell can be built in under half the conventional time, and they are environmentally "green" with excellent thermal and acoustic performance for both external and internal solid walls.

The system has been approved as a modern method of construction by the Housing Corporation.

Made from fired clay in an intricate honeycombed design, the blocks are part of the current Europe-wide surge in new single skin "vapour open" buildings.

The high thermal mass of the finished building offers overheating protection in summer and can reduce peak internal temperatures by as much as 4C.

The recent Building Regulations (Part L) have made this method of construction particularly suited to the UK.

A basic block has a K value of 0.11, and a single 300 mm block will automatically meet current building regulation standards for walls (ie a U Value of 0.35).

Higher performance blocks and systems are also available.

The blocks are quick to lay, needing just a thin bed joint system of interlocking blocks (with no mortar at all needed in the perps).

NBT's Zeigel blocks come with a wide variety of corners, lintels, blocks for internal pipe work, internal partition blocks and even flooring and roofing systems.

Special mortars are provided, as are mortar laying machines.
