Natural Building Technologies has produced the NR1 system - an ecologically sound, high performance roofing system for new buildings.

Natural Building Technologies, a specialist in sustainable building products for the mainstream market, has produced the NR1 system - an ecologically sound, high performance roofing system for new buildings The thermal heart of the system is the twinned use of wood-fibre insulation boards over rafters, with natural fibre insulation batts, or mechanically injected cellulose fill under them

The boards are manufactured from waste pine wood, are fully interlocking, airtight, breathable and completely eliminate the requirement for membranes or ventilation of the roof space.

The system not only provides very effective overheating control in summer but also high acoustic and thermal insulation (typical U value of 0.19 W/m2K) - and it also eliminates the risk of interstitial condensation or rot.

The construction has low embodied energy, low CO2 emissions (including during manufacture) and, as the products can be composted, no special provisions have to be taken on disposal.

NR1 is fast to build and offers robust detailing - with few skilled operations needed.

It offers excellent value for money and all of the materials are non-toxic, non-irritant and easy to handle.

The system is particularly suitable in situations where the loft is intended to be used as living space.
