Old walls get ecologically warm coats

A Natural Building Technologies product story

RW1 (Refurbished Wall 1), Natural Building Technologies, is a cost effective way to refurbish old walls.

RW1 (Refurbished Wall 1), from environmental building specialists Natural Building Technologies, is a cost effective way to refurbish old walls and bring them up to, or beyond, the standards demanded by the latest building regulations.

RW1 typically offers a U value of 0.28 W/m2K and below depending on the thickness of NBT's Diffutherm insulation board used.

RW1 provides substantial cost and space savings over standard dry-lining and the ecologically sound Diffutherm boards fix directly to the inner side of the brickwork without the conventional cavity or complicated venting details.

This not only saves space and studding, but eliminates both interstitial condensation, (without the need for a water resistant membrane) and also the microclimate cavities usually created by dry lining old buildings.

The boards are fully interlocking on all sides and produce an airtight but vapour-open structure.

Once the high performance board is in place, it can be finished with a mineral plaster.

This is especially effective at reducing problems and moisture penetration at wall floor / wall junctions and window reveals.

The system is quick, simple and leads to a robust construction with few skilled operations needed.

It gives sound absorption greater than 52dB.

All of the materials in RW1 are ecologically sound, non-toxic, non-irritant and easy to handle by installers.

They produce zero emissions once installed and construction has low embodied energy, low CO2 emissions in manufacture, and waste can simply be composted.
