A pioneering new approach to roofing has been launched in the UK.

The patented, highly innovative Nu-Lok Roofing System can halve installation times, reduce overall project costs and minimise future maintenance while providing a high quality, traditional slate effect.

These benefits result from the fact that the system is designed for rapid and simple installation and incorporates another industry first: Nu-Lok ceramic slates.

It can also be fitted at an early stage of construction, providing a weathertight building in which internal trades can operate more efficiently.

The Nu-Lok Roofing System comprises a patented metal fixing system that brings cost benefits to the specifier, contractor and developer alike.

Traditional timber battens are replaced with a heavy gauge galvanised steel batten.

The Nu-Lok Link Channel then snap-fits between the battens without the need for additional fixings.

Each Link Channel retains a high-grade 316 stainless steel locking clip, used to secure the leading edge of each slate.

Designed to eliminate the need for double-lapping of slates, the Link Channel routes rainwater onto the surface of the ceramic slate below.

There is no need for accurate measuring, drilling or nailing.

This significantly reduces labour time and margin for error, engineering out many of the problems encountered with traditional roofing methods.

In addition to the innovative fixing system, Nu-Lok's proprietary vitrified ceramic slates have proven extremely popular with both the design and build communities.

They are virtually non-porous (<0.03%) and will not sustain biological life, preventing moss and algae growth.

Their traditional slate appearance delivers a high quality aesthetic finish that blends well with existing buildings.

A significant benefit of Nu-Lok Ceramic Slates is that each slate is through-coloured, making fading literally impossible.

Their high compressive strength, flatness and excellent dimensional stability mean future warping is eradicated.

All these features ensure that a Nu-Lok roof requires little or no maintenance and will continue to look as good as the day it was installed.

The proprietary Nu-Lok slate is just 9mm thick, providing an elegant, natural slate effect finish and weighs just 27kg per square metre installed.

This presents the added advantage of weight saving over traditional roofing methods.
